Effect of Piroxicam in Treatment of Frozen Shoulder, Humeral Lateral Epicondylitis and de Quervain¢¥s Disease


Abstract
Piroxicam is a new non-steroidal anti-inflammatory agent characterized by a long plasma half-life. A clinical study was performed to evaluate the effectiveness of piroxicam in 20 cases of Frozen shoulder, 10 cases humeral lateral condylitis, and .10 cases de Quervain¢¥s diseases- Fourty mg piroxicam were given once a day for the first 2 days, then 20 mg once a day for 1-2weeks. Follow-up evaluation were scheduled on days 2, 7,14 and 21.
Results were as following
1. Within 1 week of piroxicam treatment, there was an improvement in motion, tenderness
and pain in severe cases. Also moderate and mild cases was most effective at the second day after treatment.
2. Overall results of the piroxicam were evaluated as complete in 12.5%, marked in 17.5% partial in 40% and none in 30%.
3. Side effect were encountered in 8 cases but generally mild and very tolerate, and. especially facial edema was most common.
